After researching about whether IKEA is a sustainable company or not, I had an idea to make my FMP mock IKEA. Therefore, I am going to re-brand them in a way that mocks them. As a result, when creating the logo, I used the same font, colours but I changed the name from IKEA to FUNKEA. Going forward in the project, I am going to use this logo on the catalogue I make in order to mock IKEA’s catalogue.

Since one of my FMP ideas revolves around creating a catalogue with the pieces of furniture I make. I decided  to attempt to create a page of my catalogue using the same style as IKEA’s. Using ProCreate on my iPad I was able to make my page look very similar due to the font I downloaded. The piece of furniture on the cover was they bed-side table I made from the Sequential Storytelling project earlier in the course. As well as the font, I also gave the piece some annotations just like IKEA do, which describe the furniture on the front cover.

For this part of the project, I decided to use make furniture spaces using different patterns, I,ages and pieces of furniture from 'The World Of Interiors' magazines. I started off by creating. collage of different patterns and fabrics that intrigued me; and then I began creating my first bedroom using multiple different pages from the magazines. By doing this, I am giving myself more ideas and ways that I can create a space for the furniture I intend on making without physically creating a space.  Now going forward, I intend to use collages as a way to mimic the piece of furniture I make into a space companies like IKEA would use in their showrooms.

When gathering materials for the FMP, I looked around my local skips for any hard wood that would be usefully when making the furniture. In addition, I was able to get some materials from my neighbours who are building an extension at the moment. Finally, one of my friends from the course had some old IKEA furniture that they were throwing away. As a result, I decided to use some of that furniture when making the new pieces of furniture in order to ensure mine is eco-friendly.

Before I started making the chair, I sketched an initial design down on paper with the rough dimensions including the height and width. After I completed the design, I began sanding down the wood I intended to use in order to remove any paint and excess dirt left on them. I then cut all the wood down to size on the bandsaw and I began assembling the chair. This time round, I decided to use dowels as my main joining method with wood glue. On each piece of wood, I drilled two holes and used two wood dowels to join the frame of the join together.

Using my iPad and Procreate I was able to create quite accurate designs for what my table and cabinet will look like. The final outcomes however may look slightly different if I don't find the required materials from skips etc. Within each design, I annotated each stage of the build and I attached my FUNKEA logo to them since I may include them in my catalogue.

These are the final pictures I took of my table, I am extremely pleased with how they turned out. I love the see through acrylic I added to the top of the table since it gives it a really unique look. Unfortunately, my design slightly changed in the end and I was unable to add a drawer underneath the table. The next part of my project requires me to take pictures of my cabinet and table around my house. These pictures will then make it into my final catalogue.

This is my final FUNKEA catalogue, all the individual pages were made using Photoshop. For the exhibition we are having, I hope to print the pages out and create a physical catalogue on glossy paper.

After researching about IKEA's price tags on the internet, I was able to create two of my own using Photoshop. Because my project mocks IKEA, I intentionally used the same colours and fonts etc. I now intend on printing these out and laminating them in order to make my exhibition look as close to an IKEA store as possible.
